I'd love to help you. Unfortunately, there will not be enough room in the Yahoo! Answers box to give you all the info you require, without directing you to a web page. To give you a brief start: St. Vincent de Paul Born: Pouy, Gascony, France, in 1580 (or maybe 1576) Died:Paris, 27 September, 1660 Grew up in a peasant (farming family) Studied humanities at Dax, France with the Cordeliers, with his theological studies at Toulouse, graduating in theology Ordained as a priest: 1600 at Toulouse, France In 1605, while returning by ship from Marseilles, where he traveled to receive an inheritance, Turkish pirates captured him and took him to Tunis, where he was sold as a slave. He escaped in 1607 with his master, a renegade whom he converted to Christianity. Locations of his work: * Initially in and around Toulouse, France * After escaping his slavery, he went to Avignon, France where he joined the papal vice-legate and followed him to Rome where he continue his studies * Sent back to France from Rom in 1609, on a secret mission to Henry IV King of France * Became almoner to the Queen Marguerite of Valois * The Queen assigned him as priest at the Abbey of Saint-Léonard-de-Chaume * In 1611, went to Paris where he met Monsieur (afterwards Cardinal) de Bérulle, who was then founding the congregation of the French Oratory * Took charge of the parish of Clichy near Paris, at Monsieur de Bérulle's request * In 1612. entered the services of the Gondi, an illustrious French family, to educate the children of Philippe-Emmanuel de Gondi * Became the spiritual director of Mme de Gondi, giving missions on her estates * Later, was curé of Chatillon-les-Dombes in the Bresse region of Franche, where he converted several Protestants and founded the first conference of charity for the assistance of the poor * Returned to the Gondi family in 1617, resuming the peasant missions [There is SO MUCH more, I'll leave you to read about it in on the web site given in the link below.] * In 1705 the process of his canonization was begun * On August 13, 1729, Vincent was declared Blessed by Pope Benedict XIII * He was canonized by Pope Clement XII on June 16, 1737 * 1885, Pope Leo XIII gave him as patron to the sisters of Charity * Feast day: September 27 You can read the rest here: http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/15434c.htm and here: http://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=326 You can learn about the Society of St. Vincent de Paul through the society's web pages: http://www.svdpusa.org/AboutUs/MissionandValues.aspx I do believe students should do their own work and reading for their assignment completion. If you need more information than what I have summarized and what is given in the web pages I have cited, then, I'm sure your local library will have more on him. Just ask a reference librarian there to help you find what you need. Best wishes
