The cheapest way would be to fly.
2 :
At http://www.ebookers.com I found a return flight for little under 400 GBP (Great Britain Pounds) by North-West / KLM (Royal Dutch Airlines) from Minnesota / St. Paul (MSP) to Venice Marco Polo International (VCE). To get a price in USD I visited North-West's web site http://www.nwa.com/ Tickets available from 618 USD including taxes / fees. I don't think you'll get a better price than by NWA because it's - as far as I know - based at MSP Airport.

Things to do with kids in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota?
I'll be traveling to Minneapoils/St. Paul, MN in mid June with my family. What can you recommend for families with kids between the ages of 4 and 10?

There is actually a lot to do in the area. My suggestions are: The Minnesota Science Museum- really cool place! Floors of interactive displays and a bunch of neat stuff. Could keep kids of any age as well as parents entertained for hours. http://www.smm.org/ The Museum has an omnitheater, a dome theater with 360 of projection, and the videos they play are usually really neat. The Minnesota Zoo- Well, a zoo a guess. It's a nice one, lots of animals, and I personally find it really cool! http://www.mnzoo.org/ The Zoo also has an imax theater, which is always really cool, and they almost always have a good movie playing there. The Mall of America... obviously.. over 500 stores, theme park, who knows how many restaurants.. if you haven't been there before you should visit at least once. http://www.mallofamerica.com/ The Minnesota Twins! - they should be good this year again! Cheap tickets are only $6 and the atmosphere is very family friendly. http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/index.jsp?c_id=min Valleyfair- A fun dry and wet amusement park, with very reasonable prices. Of course, they have the huge hardcore rides, but a lot of smaller ones as well, along with a "kidland" http://www.valleyfair.com/ There are alot more, but these are the big ones. Hope this helps! -B http://www.exploreminnesota.com/twin_cities_metro_region.html

In addition to the things others have mentioned, take the Hiawatha light rail downtown and explore the skywalk system. Your kids will have fun taking the train (which is easy and very safe), and the skyway (which conencts all the downtown stores and businesses) is fun and different from what you'll find in most other cities.
4 :
in addition to the above the childrens museum at the science museum is pretty cool, also a dinner cruise on lake minnetonka would be fun for them
5 :
Indoor fun... Mall of America, which has camp snoopy in it. Indoor Waterpark just west of Mall is nice Minnesota Twins Baseball, they have a nice family section where you can avoid people who have had too much to drink Outdoor fun Various lakes and parks Valley Fair in Shakopee...amusement park and waterpark in one...great all day fun
6 :
In addition to the other ideas already mentioned, Mill City Museum (lots of fun hands-on stuff and often smells like fresh baked bread), Bandana Square or the Jackson Street Roundhouse (to see model trains), Como Zoo and Conservatory (it's free and there's a cool old carousel), James J. Hill House, the Walker Art Center (recently updated, very cool. they have family events), the Bell Museum of Nat'l History, the Bakken Museum (electricity and magnetism, hands-on stuff), the Depot downtown (hotel with waterpark and indoor skating rink). Oh, and definitely spend some time at the chain of lakes (probably Lake Harriet, which is where more families hang out) and Minnehaha Falls. Linden Hills is a very nice neighborhood with cute shops by Lake Harriet. Have fun!

I've done the trip several times, but never without a full bus load - so most of the times we've driven through the night and mostly stopped to eat at exits from the freeway. You will want to look closely at your end destination in St. Paul - since the 35W bridge collapsed this summer it has caused some problems if you are heading that way, although since you are going to St. Paul, you may end up taking the 35E route instead. In any case, it is worth checking. Most people heading up to St. Paul stop and see the Mall of America.

How do people do the traveling whisper in the "Whispering Gallery" at St. Paul's Cathedral, London?
I always heard that you can make your whisper echo aroudn the walls. How is this done? Is it a myth?

Its not a myth I've tried it! The whispering galley is basically part of the walls of the Cathedrals dome which are a couple of meters high, completely round and made out of stone. If you stand at one side and speak to the wall, and someone else stands at the opposite side of the gallery and listens to the wall then they will be able to hear what ever you say. Its hard to explain but... It kind of works because you are speaking into a semi circle which projects what you are saying, and the other person who is listening is listening to a semi circle which receives the sound. Also because the walls are hard stone the sound bounces of it better. It's the same principal as whisper dishes where instead of the the two semi circles of the cathedrals walls are used to send and receive sound, two dishes (like the ones on the side of your house to pick up sky TV) are used which do exacty the same thing.

Travelling in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area?
I know this sounds so selfish of me to ask, but I'm travelling from Minnetonka to the MSP airport in just 2 days... will the bridge collapse that happened today affect my travel to the airport? I can't tell where that specific bridge is on mapquest.

I'm not from there, but I think take the Tenth Street bridge, it might be resulting in delay, but go early.
2 :
I just dropped my daughter off at the Minneapolis Airport. If you are traveling on 494 then you will be fine. I am concerned that her flight might have been delayed because they were clearing the airspace around the sight for rescue helicopters but I guess I won't hear until she lands in California.
3 :
You won't even go near the disaster. It happened northeast of Minnetonka and you'll be heading southeast.

If you're going by yourself with no one to share expenses, it's probably cheaper to fly
2 :
you do yahoo maps form your start address to your finishing address. Then you take the miles and divide them up by the number of mpg you get. Then figure in an average gas price, and this will give you a total! Pretty close to the mark.
3 :
My guess would be about 600.00 maybe more..
4 :
Its hard to estimate perfectly.Diferent states, diferent gas prices.Look at about $200 one way.

The Amtrak Station in St. Paul really doesn't have many attractions surrounding it. You could walk West on University Ave and go check Porky's out. It's a 50's drive-in where locals like to eat. There are also a few cafes if you walk East on University. Otherwise, there isn't a whole lot to do to kill a couple hours.

About Why isn't Minneapolis/St. Paul a separate category under "U.S. Travel" or "Dining Out
Why isn't Minneapolis/St. Paul a separate category under "U.S. Travel" or "Dining Out?"?
Minneapolis/St. Paul is one of the 20 largest metropolitan areas in the U.S., a business/convention destination, medical destinaton (Mayo Clinic), etc. I want to ask some questions, but the answers will be relatively few if posted in the overcrowded miscellaneous "other" U.S. grouping. What's aggravating is that this question has been asked about many times on the Yahoo Suggestions board, but Yahoo doesn't correct this problem or even explain why the situation is allowed to persist. http://suggestions.yahoo.com/srp/?prop=answers&query=Minneapolis&crumb=W257p4.RQlr&sort=date&filter=none&resolved=0&vote_mode=1

Sorry, but any listing is at the discretion of the staff. If they don't feel there is a consistent enough interest, they just won't update to include that. You can keep asking -- but they are not required to accept and use our suggestions.

I'm not sure why, but I've wondered that myself sometimes. It's larger than some of the cities listed, and more well-known. I'm hoping it will get on soon!

Nope - - here's the latest from Chris Cilliza of WASH. POST online "Bush and Cheney canceled the scheduled appearances because of the Hurricane Gustav, which appears to be on a collision course with the Gulf Coast. According to the Associated Press, Bush might reschedule his appearance for later this week but Cheney is leaving on a four day foreign trip starting Tuesday that seems to preclude him from making a stop at the convention. The absence of the two most visible -- and controversial -- members of the Bush Administration is seen as a blessing by nearly every Republican not directly tied to the president."

Is Baie-St-Paul the best travel destination in the Charlevoix region?
I will be traveling in late July, and have settled on Baie-St-Paul as my second destination, after Quebec City. (I have already been to Montreal.) Is this a good choice, or do you recommend elsewhere in Charlevoix? (I decided Gaspe was too much of a drive, though it looks lovely.) Do you have any specific recommendations for what to see in Baie-St-Paul and the Charlevoix region?

Baie St Paul is indeed a charming large village - or small town depending - to visit so it is a great choice. But after do go to Pointe au pic the casino and you will have to cross the (ferry) the St Lawrence to reach the Gaspé region. Unless you plan to see Percé I find the Gaspé region - shoudnt say that but... the truth please, instead I would cross to New Brunswich and the Acadian(French) peninsula as I find it more charming than the Gaspé region. welcome to quebec
